WLA Strategic Plan

MISSION

WLA unites and supports people from all types of libraries to develop and advocate for dynamic, responsive Wisconsin libraries.

VISION

WLA’s membership mirrors Wisconsin’s diverse population and represents all types of libraries. Together members – library workers, trustees, and friends – find the support and the tools they need to deliver forward-looking library service to the people of Wisconsin, promoting lifelong learning, quality of life, and equal opportunity. Members are part of a dynamic community that focuses on the importance of educating and communicating with members, political leaders, and citizens. WLA is recognized as a leader and advocate working to make the promise of libraries more visible and valued throughout Wisconsin.

GOAL 1: Advocacy

The people of Wisconsin shall acknowledge libraries as vital community and information resource centers. They will adequately fund their libraries, support legislation that strengthens library and information services, and enjoy the broadest possible access to information resources and materials.

Objectives & Activities

1. Increase participation in and effectiveness of library advocacy by WLA members and the public.

2. Increase opportunities for legislative alliances between WLA and partner organizations

3. Increase the dissemination of positive library messages to Wisconsin residents.

4. Promote and support free inquiry and promote open access to information through technology and funding.

GOAL #2: Community

The people of Wisconsin shall benefit from a community of library workers and library supporters who sustain and promote excellence in library services.

Objectives and activities

1. Build a community in which members can share experiences, challenges, failures, as well as successes.

2. Develop marketing strategies and operating procedures that attract and encourage wide participation in WLA activities.

3. Increase the diversity of the WLA membership.

4. Increase membership through comprehensive membership retention and recruitment program.

 

GOAL #3: Education

The people of Wisconsin shall be served by well-qualified library and information services staff from diverse backgrounds, who participate in relevant leadership and professional growth opportunities.

Objectives and activities:

1. Use technology applications to enhance continuing education opportunities and resource sharing.

2. Provide increased options for professional and leadership development.

3. Increase knowledge of career opportunities in Wisconsin libraries.
