Managing Email as a Public Record

Jane Pearlmutter, Director of Continuing Education/Associate Director, UW-Madison School of Library and Information Studies;
Anne Moser, Outreach Specialist, UW-Madison School of Library and Information Studies

Other topics to be covered: what is and is not an e-mail public record, how long to keep e-mail, how to store records from an e-mail system (on-line, near-line and off-line storage), and best practices.

Cudahy Family Library Tour

The Friends of the Cudahy Library invite you to visit one of Milwaukee County's newest libraries, the Cudahy Family Library, only 6 minutes away from the Conference center! An open house is planned for Tuesday, October 28, from 7-9 p.m., but feel free to come anytime during your stay in Milwaukee. The library staff would love to give you a tour and a demonstration of their new technology. Engberg Anderson and Frye Gillan Molinaro designed the 30,000 sq. foot library. A Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article described the new building as "a modernist placemaker: a stunning, transparent building that mixes traditional with modern materials (brick, copper, aluminum), generous windows and an uptilted roof." The Library features Checkpoint's new Intelligent Library System, and SAM's computer reservation and pay for print computer programs. Highlights of the Library include the Local History Room, with prototype map shelving from Embury, a Friends of the Library gift store, and original artwork by Wisconsin artist Gwen Gillen. Refreshments will be served at the Open House, so please let us know if you are planning on coming (check the option on the registration form). The Library is located at 3500 Library Drive. Please call 414-769-2244, with any questions.
