Book Drive for Twin Oaks Shelter for the Homeless

The Social Responsibilities Round Table (SRRT) is asking attendees at the 2004 WLA conference to bring donations of new or gently used books for Twin Oaks Shelter. Donations of cash are also welcome. Twin Oaks is Walworth County 's only shelter for the homeless. Many of those who spend time there are families with children. Twin Oaks would like to start a library for these individuals and families. Sometimes the children will also take a favorite book with them when they move from the shelter to other housing. Help bring the joy of reading to the residents of Twin Oaks. There will be a book cart located in the registration area where you can place your donations.

Steal this Literary Series Idea! - the McMillan Coffeehouse on Tour
Evergreen I
Mark Turcotte, poet, Sister Bay
Does “literary programming” conjure images of high fees and other high-stakes programming risks? Native American poet Mark Turcotte of Fish Creek will give a dynamic presentation of his poetry in the tradition of the comfortable, de-institutionalized setting of McMillan Coffeehouse (housed in McMillan Memorial Library, Wisconsin Rapids), where he has performed. Mark’s books, including his most recent, Exploding Chippewas, will be available for sale and signing. An open mic session will provide an opportunity to share your own work. Enjoy, and imagine how this could happen at your own library!
