Lunch Aboard the La Crosse Queen
(pre-registration required)

Your luncheon cruise on the La Crosse Queen  offers you the opportunity to experience a modern-day replica of the grand riverboats which roamed the Mississippi River in the late 19th Century.  The Queen is one of the few authentic Mississippi River paddlewheel riverboats still in operation in the country today.  Casual dress, a jacket and rubber-soled shoes are recommended. And don’t forget your camera and binoculars! Join us for the unique experience of “riverboatin’.”

Note:  the Queen is docked at the far right end of the levee in Riverside Park, near the statue of Hiawatha.  We recommend that attendees leave the Radisson Hotel back entrance by about noon to walk through the park to the Queen (approximately three blocks).  The Queen will board at 12:15 p.m. and depart promptly at 12:30 p.m.  If you require assistance to get to the La Crosse Queen dock site, please contact the WLA Office.

Hixon House
-- Meet at Registration
(pre-registration required)

Restored to its turn-of-the-century elegance, this National Historic Landmark is a Victorian home that was completely restored in 2005. Begun in 1859 by lumber baron Gideon Hixon, this Italianate home features beautiful woodwork reflecting the owner’s connection to the lumber industry. It is furnished almost entirely with original furniture and accessories. The lovely grounds with flower beds, wrought iron fencing, and ornamental hedges, have also been restored to their circa 1900 glory.
