How to Participate in Library Lovers' Month
Send postcard Valentines to your area's legislators.
- Photocopy or print postcard Valentines (use the PDF under "Resources" on the main page or create your own personalized version).
- Set up a "Library Lovers' Month" display for your patrons. It can be as simple as a stack of postcards, a short explanation of what you're doing, a list of legislators in your area, and a box to put the completed cards in.
- Let them tell your legislators, in their own words, how much they love their library and why.
- Collect your cards and send them to the appropriate legislators. Add your own note, if you'd like, making sure to thank your legislator for any support given or visits to your library. After all, legislators need love, too! (If you prefer, send all the cards to WLA, and we will make sure they get to legislators.)
- Try to send all your Library Lovers' cards by the end of February.
Tell your local media about Library Lovers Month.
- Use WLA's news release or modify it to suit your needs.
- Talk about the wonderful programs you are offering in February; turn them into Library Lovers' Month events.
- Share some of the postcard comments with your local decision-makers and media.
Request a Library Lovers' Month proclamation from your local governing body.
- While there may not be time this year, consider turning this into a local, annual event with your own proclamation modeled after Governor Doyle's proclamation.
