"I Love Libraries and I Vote" at [Local] Library

The [insert name] Library announces an election year program, "I Love Libraries and I Vote," designed to encourage library users to vote and remind those running for public office that many voters care deeply about libraries of all kinds. The campaign kicked off February 3 at Library Legislative Day in Madison.

The theme for the campaign was inspired by a survey sponsored by the Wisconsin Public Library Consortium that showed that library users are more likely to vote than non library users. The scientific survey, funded in part by the Wisconsin Library Association Foundation, determined that 80% of library users voted in the 2002 gubernatorial election compared with 65% of nonusers. The survey, "Wisconsin Library User (and Non-User): Outcomes of a Statewide Survey", conducted by consultant Josh Morrill of Morrill Solutions, had an error rate of +/- four percent.

According to [insert name], [title], these results are meaningful, but not surprising. "[insert quote here; see WLA news release for ideas, but make this your own comment on why your library is participating and showing the link between the freedom to read and the freedom to vote]."

As part of the campaign, [insert name] Library will [describe your activities: give aways of buttons and decals; information about voter information or registration at the library; details about library listening session in July, if scheduled; other activities or resources at the library that you wish to highlight].
