Position Classifications for Public Libraries

New edition published in 2005 includes the publication on CD-ROM and in print. A guide for administrators developing position descriptions for their employees; to use as a companion to the annual Salary and Fringe Benefit Survey. The Position Classification includes position descriptions for every job in all sizes of public libraries as well as public library systems. Each position description includes a list of duties, required knowledge and abilities, physical demands, mental requirements, environmental working conditions, equipment used and required education/experience. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) guidelines are also included. Updates for 2005 include additional language for almost every position related to computers, technology, and building systems, such as security, heating and air conditioning, fire protection, and theft protection; new descriptions for positions such as computer technician, public relations or public information coordinator, security guard or library monitor, storyteller or programmer, and volunteer coordinator or Friends' gift shop manager; an equipment list to ensure consistency between positions; additional language on the confidentiality of patron information; and more.
