WAAL is a chapter of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) which, in turn, is a section of the American Library Association (ALA).
Goal Area: Learning
Strategic Objective 1: ACRL expands adoption, use and development of information literacy standards.
Information Literacy Committee maintains a "best practices" web site. http://www.wla.lib.wi.us/waal/infolit/bestprac/bestpracticesamples.htm
Strategic Objective 2: ACRL increases members' ability to teach and assess lifelong learning skills.
Information Literacy Committee awarded the third annual Information Literacy Award to members of the Marquette University Raynor Memorial Libraries Instruction team: Valerie Beech, Rosemary Del Toro, Julie O’Keeffe and Rose Trupiano. The focus of this year’s award was on a project that promotes information literacy, and the Marquette University team hit the mark with their innovative "Assessment Rubric Project: Partnering with Faculty and University Administrators in Support of Student Learning." The project involved the development of assessment rubrics to be used by faculty across campus in evaluating student research. Embedded into the rubric are information literacy criteria. What impressed the award committee about this project was its innovative approach to incorporating the ideals of information literacy into the curriculum throughout the campus. The library responded to a demonstrated need on its campus, and exhibited creativity, practicality and ingenuity in addressing a campus mandate in this manner. The project involved collaboration across campus, including the endorsement of administration.
Strategic Objective 3: ACRL increases member abilities to create and manage physical and virtual spaces and services as environments for discovery.
Offered relevant programs at state academic conference including:
Energy Conservation in an Academic Library
Mashing It Up
Redesign on a Dime: UW Colleges’ new catalog interface
Podcasting in the Academic Library Setting
Re-envisioning Virtual Reference
Beyond Newsletters: RSS Feeds, Blogs, and Podcasts
Goal Area: Scholarship
Strategic Objective 1: Strengthen ACRL’s role in supporting and developing new scholarly communication models.
