AfricanAfrican Hut Authentic West and East African cuisine. Don't miss the zanzi fries. Near Marquette University. $$ Lula's Cafe Ethiopian and Italian cuisine. (!) The only place in town for wat and injera. Near the UWM campus. $$
AmericanHarry's Bar & Grill Near UWM, this bar and grill has a wide variety on their menu. Excellent food, reasonable prices and a great atmosphere. $ - $$$ Kopp's Custard This is the closest Kopp's to the conference hotel. A classic Milwaukee eatery. Outstanding burgers, sandwiches, fries, and of course, their signature frozen custard. Huge portions. No seating available, but tables are provided to stand around. $
ChineseSan Dong Express Great Chinese food. Casual dining. Generous portions. Specialty of the house is Chinese noodles (a large bowl of homemade noodles with Asian spices). Open for lunch and dinner. Not far from the airport and the conference hotel. $ - $$
FrenchCoquette Cafe Meticulously prepared and presented food; casual upscale atmosphere. Most menu items are quite reasonable; the specials are more expensive, but worth it. $$ - $$$
GermanHistoric Turner Hall Offering wonderful German specialties. Famous for their Friday night fish fries. Located in downtown Milwaukee. $$ Mader's German Restaurant Celebrating over 100 years in Milwaukee (1902-2003). Named best Milwaukee restaurant by the Washington Post, Maxim Magazine and Food Industry News. Enjoy such specialties as crispy pork shank, duck chambord, Wiener schnitzel and Rheinischer sauerbraten. Offers free valet parking. Located on historic Old World Third Street. $$ - $$$$
GreekApollo Cafe Authentic Greek cuisine (served deli style) in the heart of the trendy Brady Street neighborhood. $ - $$
IndianBombay Sweets This spot has zero atmosphere, but with fresh, vegetarian food this well-prepared, you won't care. Very reasonable prices. $ Dancing Ganesha Creative East Indian cuisine in an elegant setting. $$ - $$$ Royal India Close to the conference hotel. Very good Indian food with well prepared vegetarian entrees and curry dishes. $$ - $$$
ItalianBuca di Beppo A wide variety of Italian entrees to choose from, served in family-style portions, amidst a festive atmosphere. Try their chocolate cake! Located near the downtown area. $$ - $$$ Caterina's Ristorante Large portions are served at this cozy, family-run café. Both Northern and Southern Italian cuisine is featured. $$$ - $$$$ Il Mito Hearty, lovingly prepared regional Italian dishes in a sophisticated atmosphere. Reasonable prices. $$ - $$$
JapaneseIzumi's Cozy sushi bar and Japanese restaurant. The sushi is well-prepared and fresh. Best of Milwaukee 12 years in a row! $ - $$$$
MexicanCempazuchi Creative Mexican cuisine in a warm, wonderful atmosphere. The bar features a selection of tequilas as long as your arm. Take a stroll around the vibrant Brady Street neighborhood after your meal. $$ - $$$ Jalapeno Loco Tex/Mex offerings with reasonable prices. Located directly across from Mitchell International Airport. A favorite choice of many locals for well-prepared Mexican food. $$ - $$$ Taqueria Azteca Fine traditional Mexican cuisine with a creative twist. Colorful atmosphere. Micro-Breweries/Brew PubsMilwaukee Ale House Menu consists mostly of burgers and sandwiches and beer (hence, the name). Depending on the evening, they may have live music as well. Located in downtown Milwaukee. $$ - $$$ Water Street Brewery A Milwaukee brew pub located on the Milwaukee River in downtown Milwaukee. Close to the Milwaukee Repertory Theater complex. A little bit of everything on the menu, and, of course, beer. $$ - $$$
Middle EasternShahrazad Middle Eastern Restaurant Close to the UWM campus. Extensive menu of Middle Eastern food. $$ - $$$
PolishPolonez Restaurant Newly relocated. Fine food, beautiful atmosphere, excellent and friendly service. Has received a three and a half star rating from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's restaurant critic. A short drive from the conference hotel. $$
SeafoodEagan's Fresh fish flown in daily, and a fresh oyster bar make this trendy downtown spot a popular place for seafood. $$ - $$$ Pieces of Eight Milwaukee's only lakefront restaurant. Provides a spectacular view of Milwaukee's new, world-class art museum designed by Spanish architect, Santiago Calatrava. $$ - $$$$
SerbianFritz's Pub An inviting family-owned South side pub that offers smoke free dining before 7 p.m. Generous helpings of Serbian (burek, shish-ka-bob, chewap) and American food moderately priced. Serves a Friday fish fry after 2 p.m. on a "first-come, first-served" basis. Bureks, taking an hour to make, may be ordered ahead of time, except during Friday fish fry. $ - $$ Old Town Serbian Gourmet House Known as the maker of the best bureks in Milwaukee. The menu also features moussaka and chicken paprikash. A South side institution. $$$ - $$$$ Three Brothers Bar & Restaurant A Milwaukee landmark. Salad and sourdough bread are waiting for you on your table when you are seated. Beer is served in a frosty mug. One of the city's most delectable, thick steaks. $$$$ Porterhouse Restaurant & Lounge Located on 8th and Layton, just 1/2 mile west of the Four Points Sheraton.
