WLA Foundation 2011 Fundraising Events!
The WLA Foundation will sponsor two fundraisers to support the Campaign for Wisconsin Libraries at the WLA Annual Conference, November 1-4 in Milwaukee.
First, our online and onsite silent auction continues to a be a popular feature of the conference, raising more than $4,400 in 2010! Your contributions and bids are welcomed.
Second, join us at SPiN Milwaukee, a trendy table tennis facility in Milwaukee's historic Third Ward. For a $35 ticket, you can play table tennis, enjoy a drink and light snacks and provide a $20 charitable contribution to the Foundation. Whether you're a chopper or a hitter or don't want to play at all, we hope you'll join in the fun and support the WLAF. Vendors can participate in the event, too, and become a sponsor for $250.

OnSite Auction
This popular WLA Foundation event will be back at the 2011 WLA Conference, including the online bidding option. Proceeds will once again benefit the Campaign for Wisconsin Libraries.
To make the auction a success, we need your help! Do you have a piece of lovely art, in good shape, that doesn’t match your décor any longer? Do you find yourself creating handcrafted items that you don’t have room for at home? Why not donate these items to the WLAF Auction – we’d love to put your items out for bids! The following guidelines apply for contributed items:
- Please donate items that are $50 or higher in value
- Items are tax-deductible as charitable contributions at their actual value
- WLAF owns the items once contributed
Donated items that have created bidding excitement at past auctions include (but are not limited to –creativity is appreciated!):
- Fine arts, including jewelry, paintings, sculpture, pottery
- Products or services that a library or librarians would find useful (story hour, consulting)
- Entertainment packages (theater or sporting event tickets, golf packages)
- Hotel packages (e.g., weekend getaways with one or more meals included)
- Theme baskets (a great and economical gift donation for library staff to create collectively!)
- Trips inside or outside Wisconsin
- Collectibles, antiques and memorabilia
In addition to the satisfaction of raising money to support the Campaign for Wisconsin Libraries and adding to the fun of Silent Auction bidders, those who donate auction items will benefit by:
- Having your name listed on the bid sheet and on the receipt provided to the winning bidder.
- Name recognition on the conference Web site auction information
- Receiving recognition on the WLA website.
How to Contribute:
Step 1:
Please let us know by Monday, October 14, 2011) what you will be contributing by completing and returning a copy of the Auction Contribution Form or using the online contribution form. If possible, provide a digital photo of your auction item(s). Your completed form(s) can be mailed to: WLA Foundation, 4610 South Biltmore Lane, Suite 100, Madison, WI 53718-2153 OR emailed to wlaf@scls.lib.wi.us
Step 2:
Please bring your item(s) with you to the Conference, if at all possible.
Even though our gratitude for your donations is HUGE, space for storing them at the WLA office is at a bare minimum! If you cannot attend the conference, or absolutely cannot bring your item with you, please send the item to the office with your form.
Step 3:
WLAF will mail receipts to all contributors after completion of the auction.
Online Auction
The WLA Foundation online auction will commence about one week prior to the onsite auction and close about one week after. More details to follow.
Our goal for the online auction is to give non-conference attendees, their friends, and other online Bidding For Good auction site visitors the opportunity to share in the auction fun while assisting the Wisconsin Library Association Foundation in its mission to support all Wisconsin libraries. This is an exciting and fun way to assist the WLA Foundation and your library, while giving you the chance to bid on (and WIN!) outstanding items.

Wednesday, November 2, 2011, 8:00-11:00 p.m.
Enjoy friends and friendly competition at the annual WLA Foundation fundraiser, this year at SPiN Milwaukee. SPiN is a unique 16,500 square foot table-tennis social club located at Chicago and Water in downtown Milwaukee's trendy yet Historic Third Ward. The club sports 12 top-quality table-tennis courts on cushioned Olympic-competition flooring, plus a 13th stadium-like center court. SPiN Milwaukee houses a pro shop, restaurant, bar, lounge, and two private event rooms. Your $35 ticket covers table-tennis, one drink, light snacks and a $20 charitable contribution to WLAF. Shuttle service provided.
Businesses and institutions that wish to be fundraiser sponsors ($250 - Premium Sponsors; $500 Ultimate Sponsors) will receive the following benefits:
- Having your name listed on materials displayed at the fundraiser
- Name recognition on the Foundation Web site
- Two tickets to the fundraiser
- Ultimate level sponsors will also be included in an email acknowledgement sent to all WLA members after the event, including a link to your company's website. The acknowledgement will also be published as a post on the WLA Blog.
